Client: Thronateeska Heritage Center
Project Description: LRA Constructors, Inc. (LRA) provided preconstruction and general contracting services for construction of this special use facility in downtown Albany, Georgia. The 10,062 square foot addition, which is attached to Thronateeska Heritage Center’s existing administrative offices, is part of the center’s new archiving project, which will include digitally scanning and storing thousands of documents and records belonging to Thronateeska and the city of Albany. This will not only allow for the preservation and protection of historical documents, but will also serve as a new revenue stream for the local non-profit, according to Executive Director Tommy Gregors. The design incorporates exterior elements that blend with other area buildings as well as specialized HVAC and fire protection systems for the roughly 6,600 square foot archives storage area. Construction challenges included connecting the new structure to the existing standalone administrative building which was originally built circa 1900, operating and maintaining clearance along the existing rail service at north side of property that is approximately 25’ from new building and safety requirements along the brick paved Roosevelt Avenue. LRA self-performed all foundation and structural erection work which consisted of a hybrid pre-engineered metal building and structural steel frame.
